A Mommy Getaway

This weekend my sweet girlfriends Amanda and Toya (mommies too) and I were able to drive to San Antonio for a girls weekend! We stayed on the riverwalk and it was so much fun! We had NO idea that this was the last weekend of "Fiesta" in SA. Holy cow. We walked to Market Square the first night to eat at a Mexican restaurant and it was INSANE. But it was fun to see the town so lively and culture-full!

We shopped, we laid out, we ate way too much, we talked, we laughed, we danced, and we didn't get into too much trouble, wink wink!

D stayed back with my babes and they had a blast swimming at Honey and Poppy's yesterday and hanging out at Gamaw and Papaws today.

I missed my family so very much but it was refreshing to spend quality time with my girls, have adult conversation, and just have a little freedom not planning around the schedule and needs of two 2 year olds!!!

Before dinner at Landrys Seafood. This was literally the most incredible dinner I've ever had. Oysters on the half shell, tomato Caprese, seafood stuffed shrimp, chocolate cake and some delicious signature drinks. We were at a riverside table by candlelight with a cool breeze. It was perfect!

They're Not Babies Anymore

This one picture says it all...

Mason, for the last two years has been terrified of the vacuum. In fact, even a couple weeks ago when I vacuumed while he was home and awake, he went running for the hills the minute I plugged it in. He whines and either hides or cries begging me to hold him while I vacuum, no easy task mind you.

But today, today my sweet boy stood across the room, studied my actions for a quick second and then ran over exclaiming "Mommy, Maseen hewp?" "Mommy, Maseen turn?" "Pease, hewp!"

I was in shock. Not an ounce of fear in him and the kid continued to follow me to every room in the house offering vacuum assistance and proudly proclaiming "Mommy, did it!!" as he finished his turn in each room.

I know it sounds really silly, but in that moment I couldn't help but think this is it, we are letting go of every "baby" part of the buggies lives. And it made the rest of my day quite emotional. I want him to be strong and fearless, but I secretly want him to be afraid and need me to comfort him like I have since the moment he was born. I'm not ready for them to be such big kids. Ugh. Great, off to cry myself to sleep now...

Library Field Trip

I had been wanting to check out the new library for a while. Now that the kids are, for the most part, well behaved and quite obedient in public places, I decided that we would make a fun trip there this morning. The buggies LOVED it! They did great and were pretty good about staying with me. We read a couple of books but they were more infatuated with the Arthur exhibit thats on display until June. The new library is really kid friendly. We got there right at the end of a story telling that they apparently do on Mondays and Wednesdays so now that I know about it we will try to go more often. They do songs and crafts with it too!

I was able to get the kids their own library cards and got information about the summer "read to me" program where the kids get prizes for reading so many books. I am looking forward to a lot more trips there.

Happy Easter

Our Easter celebration started Thursday morning. We woke up, loaded the truck and headed to the lake. D's parents have a place on Lake Ivie, which is only a 3 hour drive for us. Unfortunatley since it's a reservoir that provides water to several surrounding regions, the lake is only around 15% full. But that didn't stop us from having loads of fun. We got in around nap time so put the kids down and just relaxed. D's aunt arrived just as the kids woke up so we decided to go out on the boat for a while. The kids were a bit uneasy about it at first, just from the motor noise and life jackets but they finally loosened up and had a little fun. We went back in for dinner and Gamaw and Papaw and our nephews had arrived. We enjoyed a fajita dinner and then headed to bed in our little motel room down the street.

Friday Mal and I slept in a little and then I was able to go with D and the nephews on the boat for a few hours of fishing while the buggies stayed with Gamaw for a day of fun. I caught half of the fish that we hauled home that day. I love fishing. Probably something a lot of people don't know about me. I can seriously sit and fish for hours! Of course it's more fun when they are biting like they were that day but it's very relaxing and exciting to me! We got back and the kiddos were napping. We ate a brisket smoked by my awesome hubby for dinner and then we colored Easter eggs before heading to bed.

Saturday we awoke to find the Easter bunny had made an early appearance at the lake house! The kids opened baskets and hunted Easter eggs. We were joined by some more of D's family for the festivities that morning. After some time visiting we loaded up and headed home. We got home and went straight in to the next Easter celebration, coloring our eggs at home.

Sunday we hunted eggs in our backyard and then attended my old church for Easter service. Afterwards we went to my Aunt Karen's house for celebration number 3! It was great to see all my family and watch the buggies. They had the hunting thing down by this one!!

Today D took off work so we could have a family day. We took the kids to the movies for the first time. We saw Rio 2 and the kids did really good! They ate well (and messy), watched the movie and when they got restless we just let them walk back and forth on our empty row. (There were only 2 other families in the theater who were doing the same.) We had a great time playing games afterwards as well.

The family time and memories we made over the last few days were wonderful. Celebrating the resurrection of our Savior while providing fun experiences for our kids made this years Easter celebration perfect!
